KATE MOSS BY STEVEN KLEIN

KATE MOSS BY STEVEN KLEIN

The March 2012 issue of W magazine features a series of Kate Moss by Steven Klein. The shoot is a juxtaposition of stark iconic good and ghostly endearing evil. The light and dark is ambiguous and deeply troubling.

The series features such props and spiders, stuffed rouge swans and an accompaniment of religious imagery. Controversially, both the light and dark personalities of Moss tout god-praising props. One photograph in particular portrays Moss as a nun, wearing a habit; however, there is a satanic red light splashed on her face, emphasized by a sweaty sheen. The look is piercing and fear-inducing.

The artistic concept is complex and multi-layered. The grim reality of both side is portrayed masterfully. Each photograph is engaging, with varied levels of texture and heavy contrast in both color and lighting.
